Name: Daan Pruijt
Prior education: Bachelor degree in History, University of Amsterdam
'In my bachelor programme I focused mostly on ancient history and modern history, more specifically the field of Holocaust and genocide studies. After having finished my bachelor's I felt it was time for a change of pace and started looking for Master level educations outside the realm of history. My attention was drawn to this master's programme that was advertised as being very interdisciplinary. Since I've always had a strong interest in games and their design this programme really peaked my interest.'
'Even though my background was not ideal I decided to apply anyway and I was accepted. At first I was worried that I would encounter a lot of problems coming in to a very different field than what I was used to, but luckily these problems were only small and I got used to it rather quickly.'
'Now being at the halfway point I must say that I'm really enjoying the programme so far. It has challenged me to approach problems differently and inspired me to pursue gaming and everything involved with it further. It has shown me not only that games can be more than entertainment, and that they can be used for other, more 'serious', purposes as well, but it has also given me the tools to actually make the games themselves.'
