Name: Dr. Cees Snoek
Education: MSc Business information Systems (UvA), PhD in Computer Science (UvA)
Position at UvA: Associate professor at the Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam
"I received my Master's degree in Business Information Systems at the University
of Amsterdam. After my Master's thesis I continued at the same university with a
PhD in Computer Science. And currently I am an associate professor at the
Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam and head of R&D at Euvision Technologies,
one of the
lab’s spin-offs. In the past I have also been affiliated with Carnegie Mellon
University, USA and UC Berkeley, USA."
"My research interests focus on video and image retrieval. In short, my research aims to translate pixels to text for visual retrieval. It is my ambition to solve this visual retrieval problem, with an ultimate personal goal to arrive at a video search engine with human perceptual skills."
"The most interesting aspect of the HCM track is the student population. I especially appreciate their variety in academic backgrounds and their accompanying wide and open perspectives to solving acute demanding problems in human centered multimedia. From all students starting HCM, I expect they have the ambition to make a difference and that they act accordingly."
