Dr. Arnoud Visser - The Intelligent Robot Laboratory

'A vibrant part of the Informatics Institute is the Intelligent Robot Laboratory, where students are working day and night on projects related to intelligent systems. The most spectacular are the experiments with the robots, for instance the humanoid Nao or the robot dog Aibo. The robots are put to good use by all the students; from the first year of the Bachelor’s programme all the way to the Master’s level, where students get to use those robots for their graduation projects.

Students are organised in teams, which are active in many aspects of UvA’s Artificial Intelligence programme. Besides conducting scientific experiments, they also go to international competitions (RoboCup, IMAV), organise and participate in summer schools and workshops, give demonstrations, take part in ethical discussions and make active contributions to socially relevant research in other subject areas.

In short, the Intelligent Robot Laboratory is a stimulating environment; where students work closely together to learn as much as possible from this inspiring field with the best tools and knowledge close by.'
